Presentation Abstract

Title: Keynote

Resource sharing  is facing significant challenges, including financial constraints, licensing restrictions for digital materials, technological disparities, and staffing issues. However, advancements in technology and increased collaboration among libraries offer promising solutions. The future of resource sharing will involve expanded digital sharing, enhanced collaboration among libraries and consortia, improved community driven technology, and a focus on user experience. By working together we will ensure that libraries will continue to provide valuable access to information and resources for their patrons.

Jessica Hartwigsen

Bio

I’ve been working in the CSU for about 30 years.  I started in Library Systems at Chico State, working on library web pages and creating and maintaining databases.  I worked with the different departments in the library, helping with hardware and software issues, as well as supporting different ILS processes needed by the different departments.

While at Chico, I created a simple database that included the journal titles, full-text coverage date, the publisher/vendor name, and links to the journals.

I created and maintained the same type of database for 5 other libraries within the CSU, managing their locally subscribed resources.

In 2002, I started at the Chancellor’s Office where I started configuring and maintaining the centrally purchased (ECC) and negotiated e-collections (Opt-in) in the SFX link resolver.

Later we added Metalib and Summon where I also maintained the centrally purchased or negotiated resources.

When we moved to Alma, I started creating and maintaining licenses in the Network Zone, adding Terms of Use to the licenses, along with managing the ECC/Opt-in collections.

I manage 76 ECC (Electronic Core) collections in the Alma NZ, as well as over 300 Opt-in collections, and over 300 open access collections managed in the NZ.

Also, I manage over 200 licenses in the NZ.

I work closely with our sister department (SDLC) at the Chancellor’s Office to gather information on renewals and update the collections and licenses in Alma.

Presentation Abstract

Title: Will it lend? How license terms impact ILL lending

This presentation will focus on two main parts:

1. A discussion surrounding ILL lending terms in electronic resource licenses with vendors, including what they are, how they are negotiated, and how various terms (including CONTU) impact ILL department lending operations.

2. An overview of how the ILL license terms for the centrally negotiated licenses (those negotiated by the Systemwide Digital Library Content team at the CO) are tracked in Alma. We will discuss how to view and download the terms from Alma, how to make them discoverable in Primo, and talk about how the relevant terms are used to determine lendability of electronic resources via RapidILL or other resource sharing services (i.e Worldshare ILL).

Most recently, she spent a year at Cal State LA as the Electronic Resources and Digital Publishing Librarian before moving to the Chancellor's Office in September 2023.  She also is an alumnus of CSULB and SJSU and got her start in libraries working as a shelving and circulation desk aide at a local public library.

Presentation Abstract

Title: ILLiad to WorldShareILL

In June 2024, CSU Fullerton discontinued its use of ILLiad, which it had been using for over 20 years, and began using WorldShareILL in conjunction with Rapido.   This session will look at some of the reasons why we decided to move to WorldShareILL and how WorldShareILL has shaped our current workflows.  Additionally, the paths and steps we took along the way to make the switch to WorldShareILL a relatively smooth transition will be highlighted.
